She is a member of the International Association of Women Judges (IAWJ), a member of the Trinidad and Tobago Association of Women Judges (TTAWJ) and a High Court Judge of the Judiciary of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago since 2013, where she presides in the Civil Division.
Justice Kangaloo is a proud graduate of The University of the West Indies, St. Augustine (1991), and the Hugh Wooding Law School (1993). Before her judicial appointment, she practiced law for 20 years and was a Partner in the Litigation Department of one of Trinidad’s largest law firms. She is also a Board Member of the Judicial Education Institute of Trinidad and Tobago (JEITT), where she has contributed significantly to the development of the local judiciary. Her work includes the editing and publishing of two editions of the Civil Proceedings Ruled and the Gender Equality Protocol.
Justice Kangaloo has demonstrated deep commitment to the well-being of judicial officers, both regionally and internationally. Through the JEITT, she has led meaningful work on judicial wellness, including training initiatives and creating safe spaces for candid conversations between judges and mental health professionals on stress, burnout, and emotional resilience. She is the founder of “We Wellness”, a wellness initiative for judges and judiciary staff that promotes mental, physical, and social wellbeing through curated events and practical, evidence-based resources. Her advocacy in the area is grounded in lived experience: she speaks openly about the ongoing challenges of maintaining personal wellbeing while serving on the Bench. Through the power of authentic storytelling, Justice Kangaloo inspires colleagues to embrace vulnerability and prioritize wellness in leadership. Her voice brings a distinct and compelling Caribbean perspective to global conversations about mental health in the judiciary.
In addition to her work on wellbeing, Justice Kangaloo has maintained a strong interest in intellectual property law. She presented at the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Judges Forum in Geneva in 2019 and 2024, and was honoured in March 2022 as one of the four women judges featured in WIPO’s celebration of the inaugural International Day of Women Judges. She has also presented at the International Congress of Actuaries (ICA) 2023 in Sydney, Australia, on “The Smart Tables: Development of Actuarial Loss of Earnings Tables for Use in Developing Countries”, and continues to speak on this topic across Caribbean actuarial and legal forums.
Outside of her professional life, Justice Kangaloo is an avid foodie and amateur oenophile who enjoys combining her culinary interest with travel whenever the opportunity arises.
