The Honourable Mr. Justice Ronnie Boodoosingh was appointed as the ninth (9^th) Chief Justice of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago on 22^nd October 2025. His appointment represents the continuation of a career distinguished by legal scholarship, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to justice and education within the Caribbean region.

The Hon. the Chief Justice, Mr. Justice Boodoosingh, formerly Justice of Appeal, obtained his Bachelor of Laws (LLB) with Honours from the University of the West Indies and his Legal Education Certificate (LEC) from the Sir Hugh Wooding Law School. He later earned a Master of Laws (LLM) in International Dispute Resolution (Merit) from the University of London. His professional training also includes certification as a Judicial Education Trainer from University College London, an Advocacy Trainer from Gray’s Inn (UK), and an Adult Education Trainer from the University of the West Indies.

Mr. Justice Boodoosingh was admitted to practice in October 1992 and gained exceptional experience in both the civil and criminal arenas, eventually rising to the post of Senior State Counsel in the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions. His judicial career began with his appointment as a Puisne Judge in September 2007, where he presided over both divisions of the High Court, before his elevation to the Court of Appeal on 14^th September 2020. Across these years of service, Mr. Justice Boodoosingh has been recognized as a distinguished jurist, with clarity of reasoning, a disciplined approach to adjudication and respect for fairness and rule of law.

For over twenty-four (24) years, Mr. Justice Boodoosingh has served as a lecturer at the Hugh Wooding Law School, where he has profoundly shaped generations of Caribbean legal professionals. He served as Course Director of the Trial Advocacy Programme and lectured in Ethics, among other courses, consistently fostering in his students a respect for preparation, professionalism, and principled advocacy. He is also the founder of the Human Rights Law Clinic, an initiative that broadened the school’s engagement with issues of social justice and human rights. Beyond his formal teaching roles, he has also served as a Coach and Adviser to schools’ Mooting Teams, including the Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ) Moot Team, guiding his students in the art of persuasive advocacy and legal reasoning. His influence as an educator extends beyond the classroom through his participation in regional training initiatives for attorneys and judicial officers, where he continues to advance standards of ethical and effective legal practice.

Mr. Justice Boodoosingh is also an accomplished author and legal educator. His published works, The Complete Advocate, Advocacy in Point Form, Practical Evidence in Civil Cases, Ethics and Advice for Advocates, and his Evidence in Civil Cases training notes prepared for the Law Association of Trinidad and Tobago, reflect clarity of thought, precision in practice, and a deep commitment to strengthening the standards of advocacy and ethics within the legal profession. Through these writings, he has contributed significantly to a culture of continuous learning, professionalism, and ethical excellence across the legal community.

Beyond his judicial and academic accomplishments, Mr. Justice Boodoosingh has served as a member of the Disciplinary Committee of the Law Association of Trinidad and Tobago and as National Coordinator of the Access to Justice Project under the Organisation of Commonwealth Caribbean Bar Associations (OCCBA). These roles underscore his dedication to ethical leadership and equitable access to justice.

As President of the Judicial Education Institute of Trinidad and Tobago (JEITT), The Hon. the Chief Justice, Mr. Justice Boodoosingh exemplifies the Institute’s vision of advancing judicial excellence through continuous education, reflection, and innovation.
